Webster’s defines innovation as “something new or different” and “introduction of new things or methods.” When MGIS was established in 1969, there was no such thing as a contract or coverage built just for physicians. But we changed all that by introducing new and different insurance programs to the physician marketplace. Call it innovation, call it foresight, or just call it common sense. In any case, MGIS’ focus on physicians and innovation has resulted in market-leading products and services that physicians have come to expect.

In 1969, our first physician group customers asked for tailored insurance programs for physicians. So what did we do about it? We pioneered physician-specific solutions for the marketplace, and we continue to innovate to this day. It’s a fact that many of the provisions that define a quality physician group LTD product have come from MGIS and its carrier partners. Case in point: MGIS created the Infectious Disease Rider long before HIV and Hepatitis were in the news. In addition, MGIS created the Progressive Illness Benefit and the “Best of Both Worlds” Residual Benefit formulas to protect a physician’s capacity to generate income and still qualify for substantial benefits. Over the years, MGIS has introduced other products specific to physicians, including medical-professional liability programs. We recognize the importance of working closely with our physician clients to fine-tune to specific needs and expectations. We’ve sought feedback from our physician clients and then designed accordingly ... not the other way around.

When it comes to handling physician claims, we make it personal. In addition to creative product designs, MGIS has worked with its carrier partners to provide policyholders with industry-leading, physician-specific claims units that adjudicate claims solely for MGIS clients. This means our physician clients are not stuck with a generic, foreign-based adjuster of the direct carriers. More importantly, it means that we stand between the physician and the carrier, solving the “you versus the big insurance company” problem.

Today, our dedicated administration and service units understand the needs of physicians and their practices, and work hard to ensure that all claims are handled promptly and fairly.
